DHAKA: The BNP called a countrywide protest programme on Sunday in protest against the bar on the party members to hold a program in the capital Thursday.
BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the announcement at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan office on Friday morning.
He said: “BNP thinks that the cops barred the party men from holding the programme illegally and unconstitutionally.”
“Filing fake case against the senior leaders of the party is a new way of the government to repress the opposition party,” he added.
On Thursday, BNP accused police of foiling a program scheduled to be held in the capital in protest against disappearance, adduction, killing, repression and arrest of its party men.
Policemen blocked the BNP men while they were making arrangement for the discussion at Engineers Institution in the capital.
Dhaka City BNP Member Secretary Abdus Salam said that they had been told by police to acquire a permission letter.
“When we contacted Shahbagh Police Station for permission they told us to contact Police Commissioner’s office”, he also said.
